The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) lodged a complaint with CAF against Joseph Lamptey after he awarded the hosts a dubious penalty, which turned the game in South Africa’s favour.
The 42-year-old will therefore not referee at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon next January.
“Following the dispute and protest letter from the FSF on the refereeing of the match between South Africa and Senegal, CAF informs that its Referee Commission has decided to suspend referee Lamptey for three months. The latter being thus excluded from the next African Nations Cup in Gabon, because of his poor performance,” the Senegalese Football Federation said in a statement.
It’s worth mentioning that South Africa defeated Senegal 2-1 in the second round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, to top Group D with four points from two matches.
