Super Eagles assistant goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa seems to be ahead in the race to replace injured Carl Ikeme when Nigeria clash with Algeria in Saturday's massive World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
The FC Ifeanyiubah star has been the deputy to Ikeme since head coach Gernot Rohr took charge and this appears to have given him an edge over Chippa United of South Africa glovesman Daniel Akpeyi and former golden Eaglets star Dele Alampasu.
According to Owngoalnigeria.com, Ezenwa was put through special drills by goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu, while Alampasu and Akpeyi practiced with the rest of the squad.
We have a goalkeeper who has been with us for some time now, he has played test games for us against local side. That alone is an edge but we have to consider other factors as well before settling on who will be in goal, the website quotes Rohr as explaining to them in an interview.
2013 U-17 World Cup winner Alampasu has continued to impress, but his inexperience in big game situations could well stand in his way.
