Serena Williams wins women US Open 2013

Serena Williams beat  No. 2  seed Victoria Azarenka to win her 5th Us Open Title. It is her 17th singles Grand Slam victory — the fourth most in women’s tennis history, leaving no doubt that she is one of the greatest the sport has ever seen. This is Serena’s game, and we’re just lucky to be able to watch her brilliance. The ladies traded games yet again before Serena was finally able to pull ahead and finish out the set and the match, 6-1, the same duo went head to head against one another for the 2012 US Open title too.
Serena was heading into the US Open final on an unbelievable roll. After easily defeating her nemesis Sloane Stephens  in the fourth round, the best player in the world then ran off easy victories in the quarter and semifinals. In an amazing feat, she only lost one set in the entire tournament.
For winning this US Open Serena received the sum of $2.6 million first prize plus a $1 million bonus for her performance in US Open tuneup events. The total would boost her above $9 million in season earnings, a women`s record, and boost her career winnings above $50 million.
New York: World number one Novak Djokovic and number two Rafa Nadal set up a mouthwatering men`s singles final, monday`s U.S. Open championship showdown will be the third in four years for Djokovic and Nadal at the US National Tennis Center after they advanced in contrasting fashion.
