Drama at PDP Convention: Atiku, 7 Governors & others form new Faction

The long wait for how the People's Democratic Party Convention holding today will end as the former Vice  President Atiku Abubakar and seven Governors; Gov. Rotimi Amechi of River State, Gov.  Muritala Nyako of Adamawa State, Gov. Babangida Muazu Aliyu of Niger State,  along with Governors of Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, senator Bukola Saraki, amongst others storm out to form their own faction of the PDP over the dislike of how they were treated and the disqualification of close to 50 aspirants loyal to the opponents of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The group has chosen Abubakar Barajeas the new party chairman

There was also reports of  violence as pockets of fights broke out here and there even between factions of delegates from Anambra State as those loyal to Andy Uba went on rampage against the others. We all await to see how it all unfolds.....

Egypt: leader of Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Badie arrested

Police in Egypt have detained the supreme leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, according to security officials and state television.

Badie was taken into custody after he was found in an apartment in the eastern Cairo district of Nasr City, according to security officials and state television.
The apartment was very close to where Morsi’s supporters held a six-week sit-in protest that was cleared by officers last Wednesday.
Badie and his influential deputy Khairat el-Shater, who is also in custody, will go on trial later this month for their alleged role in the killing of eight protesters outside the Brotherhood's Cairo headquarters in June.
His arrest is another step in the authorities’ crackdown on the Brotherhood’s leaders and officials, detaining scores of them across the country.
The arrest came the day after a bloody attack which saw 25 policeman killed in an ambush by suspected militants in the Sinai Peninsula.

Arsene Wenger ready to spend 12 million Pounds for France midfielder Yohan Cabaye

Yohan Cabaye has been targeted by Arsene Wenger as the Arsenal manager looks to bolster his injury-hit squad after Saturday's dismal 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign.
Angry Arsenal fans chanted for Wenger to splash the cash at the final whistle after the Frenchman failed to make a marquee signing during the close-season.
But Wenger's offer for Cabaye is reported to have fallen well short of Newcastle's valuation and Magpies boss Alan Pardew has no intention of losing the former Lille player on the cheap.
Wenger, who has only eight fit senior players ahead of Wednesday's crucial Champions League play-off first leg at Fenerbahce, is also planning to make a combined 35 million pound sterling bid for Swansea striker Michu and his team-mate Wales defender Ashley Williams, according to the London Evening Standard.
Meanwhile, Cabaye, who is said to be valued at around pound sterling20 million by Newcastle, was left out of the Newcastle squad for their Premier League opener at Manchester City on Monday

Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius who Shot girlfriend to face court over murder

Police have "everything they need" to arraign Parlaympic star Oscar Pistorius with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.The 26-year-old double amputee is accused of killing Steenkamp, who would have turned 30 today, in a shooting incident at Pistorius' home in February.
Pistorius denies he committed murder and says he shot Steenkamp by mistake, thinking she was an intruder.
His trial is expected to start early next year, but the exact date will likely be set during today's court appearance.
A judge will preside over the trial and ultimately pronounce the world-famous athlete innocent or guilty. South Africa does not have trial by jury.

25 Policemen killed by Islamist extremists in Egypt

Militants in Egypt today killed 25 policemen execution-style in an ambush in the Sinai Peninsula, as the chaos in the country continued.
In Cairo, fears are growing over a 17-year-old Irish boy and his three sisters who were arrested in the wake of a protest at a mosque, after another sister suggested that the teenager could have been 'beaten to hell' at the Tora prison.

Murinho kick starts Chelsea return with a Win over Hull City

Jose Mourinho enjoyed a  Chelsea homecoming on Sunday also making a victorious start to the Premier League season.
Chelsea ripped apart Hull inside 25 minutes at Stamford Bridge, with the goals from Oscar and Frank Lampard securing a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
While Lampard had earlier missed a penalty, Roberto Soldado had no such trouble from the spot for Tottenham to score on debut and clinch a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace
All eyes on the magician and wonder coach Jose Murinho as he returns to his old club side Chelsea, we look forward to see what he has to offer this season with Manchester United on their toes as they know Murinho can spring surprises and definitely has eyes on that trophy

Rafeal Nadal Wins Cincinatti Open

Rafeal Nadal worlds number 3 seed beat John Isner on the 17th of August 2013 to win his 26th Masters title.
he Spaniard won 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-3) to secure back-to-back titles following his success in Montreal last weekend.
Nadal, 27, saved two set points in a tight opening set and came through another tie-break to seal victory and clinch his 59th career title.
"It's very special for me to win here," said Nadal, who starts his bid to win a second US Open title in eight days.

The duo fought to 8-8 in the tie-break before Isner volleyed the ball into the net to give Nadal set point and the former world number one clinched it when the American's return fell short of the net.

Boko Haram Leader Mohammed shekau may be Dead

The Joint Task Force Army Spokesman said today that Boko Haram Leader Mohammed shekau may have been killed during a shoot out with the militants at a hideout somewhere in Borno State in Norther Nigeria this came after the militants went on a rampage and burnt 30 cars 48hrs ago.
We will all wait to confirm how true this statement is as the same person had been rumored dead in 2009 only to be false.

Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic suffer dramatic defeats out of Cincinatti open

British born Wimbledon champion who was seen to have started the Cincinatti open with more enthusiasm and vigor leaving his fan hopeful of a US open trophy saw him crash out of the competition after loosing all the sets.

Manchester United Kick off Title defense in style

A first match and a first victory; a new manager  

Rooney acknowledged the supporters as he warmed up but certainly did not join in the celebrations for either of the two United goals he helped to selflessly construct and then walked straight down the tunnel at the end.
 
Robin van Persie has topped the Premier League scoring charts for two seasons and with two goals here he threw down the gauntlet again. He also scored two in last Sunday’s Community Shield. For all the talk, the telephone-number transfer fees, and the focus on Rooney, Gareth Bale and Luis Suárez, it is RVP who remains the league’s MVP.
There were also two goals for an England striker but, instead of Rooney, it was Danny Welbeck. He has already beaten his league total from last season – just the one – in one evening’s work. His second, an exquisite chip, and Van Persie’s first, a crisp scissor-kick, are already contenders for goal of the season.
Certainly there was a rich intent from the champions which showed that, for all the challenges expected from Chelsea and Manchester City this season, they will not give up their title lightly. The weather in South Wales was indeed epic on Saturday but this title race could have a similar grand sweep to it.
